I lucked into a really nice 640 which looks good enough that I will likely not need to do a refinish. The finger plate is another story however as it is badly worn and I do not believe can be reclaimed. Would prefer a replacement plate obviously but a CAD file of the artwork would help as well. Look forward to hearing from you.
2Nick have you contacted Ian Nutt he sometimes has finger plates or looked in Restoration section for artwork. Best to use the Eddystone User Group.io forum for these requests has bigger audience

4I was interested in the scam article. I have restored many classic communication receivers, including several Eddystones. Frankly I would have been extremely suspicious about such a low price including shipping. Shipping across the Pacific is expensive, I have been quoted over $280 NZ to ship a receiver to the USA from NZ. That would be about $240 Aus. So if it looks too good to be true, it almost certainly is, is the best policy.
5I picked up 2 receivers an 770u and an 850\2 I don’t know anything about either. They look like they are worth restoring. there are currently no power cords connected. Can you supply information to get me started also explain the controls on the front panels. I appreciate any help.

9Just found a bit of an oddity with the crystal calibrator on a newly restored 830/7. This set has been completely rebuilt and aligned with excellent results. However I’m bemused by the calibrator. The output of this unit seems to have the property of swamping (overloading) the first mixer circuit on some of the bands – most notably the higher bands using double conversion. This swamping can be modified by adjusting L37 with the effect that it is increased on some bands and lessened on others. It initially manifests itself by virtue of the fact that the audible loudness of the tuning beat note varies from band to band, and on a ‘quiet’ band, the loudness can be increased by detuning the mixer stage with the Peak RF control. A similar result is achieved by disconnecting the calibrator output lead and instead holding it in close proximity to the calibrator box. The calibrator itself has been set to exactly 100 KHz, but I can find no information with respect to achieving an optimum setting for L37. My observations would suggest that it tends to vary the proportion of the various output harmonics. I would appreciate any observations/advice on this and I wonder whether anyone has observed anything similar?
